10 Hospitalized After Crash Involving School Bus: PD

The bus was carrying a total of 10 disabled adult occupants when the crash occurred.

SMITHTOWN, NY - A total of eight people were hospitalized after a crash involving a school bus in Smithtown on Tuesday afternoon.

The Smithtown Fire Department and Suffolk Police responded to the crash on Route 347 and Terry Road at about 4:43 p.m.

According to police, a man driving a 2006 Ford 4-door sedan was traveling eastbound on Route 347 when he rear-ended an Omni bus carrying disabled occupants near the intersection of Terry Road.

There were 10 adult passengers on board, they were all transported to local hospitals for observation.

The man in the Ford was not injured. His vehicle was towed.

Ambulances from the St. James, Smithtown and Nesconset transported the people to the hospital.
