80-Year-Old Smithtown Woman Killed in Hauppauge Crash

Accident occurred on Vets Highway Sunday night.

An 80-year-old Smithtown woman was killed and two others were injured in a two-car crash in Hauppauge Sunday night, police said.

According to police, John Gilmartin, 51, was driving his 2005 Toyota Corolla west on Veterans Memorial Highway when his vehicle collided with a 2014 Ford Mustang at the intersection of Route 111 in Hauppauge at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The driver of the Mustang, Nikki Torres, had been traveling east on Vets Highway and was attempting to make a left onto Route 111 when the collision occurred, police said.

Gilmartin’s passenger, his mother Elizabeth Gilmartin, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she died of her injuries on Monday, police said. John Gilmartin, also of Smithtown, and Torres, 23, of Ronkonkoma, were also transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

No criminal charges have been filed. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
