Accompsett Elementary Welcomes Grandparents
About 400 grandparents and special guests attend Grandparents Day at Smithtown school.

Accompsett Elementary School recently opened its doors to approximately 400 grandparents and special guests of the school’s kindergartners and first-graders for Grandparents Day, an event that allows youngsters to show what they are learning in class and have some fun bonding with their elders.
Grandparents Day has taken on many forms through the years, according to Accompsett Principal Jeanne Kull-Minarik, but the tradition never gets old. The children take great pride in their school, and the grandparents show a sincere interest in their grandchildren’s education and intellectual growth.

Held in conjunction with the Accompsett ES PTA, which provided breakfast and refreshments throughout the morning, Grandparents Day was highlighted by storytelling, writing exercises and fun family bingo.
“It’s a nice way to start the school year,” said Kull-Minarik.
