SMITHTOWN, NY — The Smithtown Fire Department had an eventful Tuesday night. Firefighters were alerted to an electrical hazard at Terry Road and North Avenue around 8:30 p.m.

When they arrived, members found a primary power line arcing against a tree branch with a small fire in the tree, said P.I.O. Rick Torre. PSEG was called de-energize the line so the fire department could put out the fire. Shortly after, the primary line burned through and ignited a fire on the ground as well as in one of the transformers.

Once PSEG arrived, power to the area was shut off and the three fires were doused.
