SMITHTOWN, NY — St. Catherine of Siena Hospital has earned the Gold Seal of Approval for Total Hip and Knee Replacement from The Joint Commission. The nationally recognized accrediting organization evaluates healthcare quality and patient safety standards.
The certification, awarded in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, recognizes the hospital’s orthopedic program for meeting specialized standards in hip and knee replacement care.
According to the hospital, the designation followed a comprehensive onsite review process in which Joint Commission evaluators assessed the continuum of care provided to patients, including pre-surgical consultation, admission procedures, discharge planning and recovery support.
To earn the Gold Seal certification, hospitals must meet rigorous standards for patient and staff education, performance monitoring, patient-reported outcomes, clinical documentation, and evidence-based treatment practices.
“Quality and safety are at the core of every decision at our hospital and across the Catholic Health system,” Christopher Nelson, president of St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, said in a statement. “This recognition from The Joint Commission reflects the dedication and commitment to excellence of our orthopedic care team, and we’re proud of the exceptional work they do every day to keep the Smithtown community healthy.”
The hospital is part of Catholic Health, a regional healthcare system serving Long Island with six acute care hospitals, nursing homes, physician practices, hospice services and home healthcare programs.
