Free Rabies Vaccines For Dogs, Cats Offered In Smithtown This Weekend (patch.com) — Smithtown pet owners have a chance to get free rabies vaccinations for their dogs, cats, and ferrets this Sunday at the Suffolk County SPCA office in the William J. Lindsay Complex. With 20 rabies cases reported in Suffolk County this year, officials are stressing the importance of vaccinating pets, following handling rules at the clinic, and reporting any wild animals acting strangely.

TRAVEL ADVISORY: Overnight Lane Closures on State Route 25 in Town of Smithtown and Village of the Branch, Suffolk County (longisland.com) — Overnight lane closures are coming to Jericho Turnpike/Main Street in Smithtown, with up to two lanes shut in each direction between Kings Park Road and Route 111 on weeknights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Sept. 14. The two‑month pavement renewal project will always keep at least one lane open each way, but drivers should expect delays and watch roadside signs for changing details.
   

4. No increase in general fund taxes in 2027, Romaine says in State of the County address (tbrnewsmedia.com) — Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine says his proposed 2027 budget will hold general fund property taxes flat while continuing sewer expansion that already includes work in Smithtown. He highlights strong county reserves, new building projects, and bipartisan support for keeping taxes level, along with future sewer possibilities for nearby St. James.
