ST. JAMES, NY — Suffolk County police are asking for the public's help identifying a man accused of approaching a 14-year-old girl as she walked from Smithtown High School East last month.
The girl was walking near Lincoln Avenue and Sixth Street at about 2:20 p.m. Sept. 11 when a man parked a black Audi SUV in front of her, police said.
The man made an inappropriate comment to the girl and offered her $300, according to police. Police described the man as white, bald and between 40 and 50 years old.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers released images of the vehicle investigators believe was involved. Police are investigating the incident as endangering the welfare of a child.
