Coca-Cola Contributes to Red Cross Readiness on Long Island

John Miller, CEO of the American Red Cross on Long Island, toured the Coca-Cola warehouse in Smithtown, N.Y., recently, along with Long Island board member and Coca-Cola Red Cross Representative Frank Palma.

“Partnering with the American Red Cross to ensure Long Islanders have a ready source of drinking water in the event we are called upon to support disaster relief, fits perfectly into Coca-Cola’s “Live Positively” platform” Palma said. “‘Live Positively’ is what we call our commitment to making a positive impact in the communities in which we live, work and serve.”

Coca-Cola allocates 20,000 cases of Dasani water at all times in its Long Island facilities for the Red Cross, and has worked alongside Long Island Red Cross responders during drills that simulate the activation of shelters across Long Island.

Last year, during preparations leading up to the arrival of Hurricane Irene, “The two organizations worked together flawlessly to deliver more than 10,000 cases to relief shelters across Long Island,” said Palma. “It was an amazing and rewarding experience that those of us that were involved will never forget. We are proud to support the Long Island American Red Cross in its mission to provide Long Islanders relief when, and where, it is needed.”

Miller agreed. “The Red Cross has a committed partner and supporter in Coca-Cola,” he said. “We are extremely appreciative of all they do for the Red Cross and for our community.”
