Barbie The Bunny: Smithtown Adoptable Pet Of The Week
Barbie was abandoned at Sunken Meadow State Park with her companion, Ken, who has since been adopted. Barbie is looking for her dream home.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Barbie, a female black and white rabbit, is the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pet of the Week.
She was found abandoned at Sunken Meadow State Park along with her male companion, Ken, according to the shelter.
"Ken has since been adopted, and now it’s time for Barbie to find her own dream home," the shelter wrote. "Sweet Barbie took her time to warm up to Animal Shelter staff, but she has now blossomed into a loving little beauty who enjoys snacking on yogurt treats and Romaine lettuce. Barbie is litter trained and spayed, and she would do best in a home with older children."

The Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter is not equipped to safely house animals other than dogs & cats long-term. However, if an animal is in danger and needs housing temporarily until another rescue has room, the rescue said it will do its best to provide safe shelter while it can. While the animal waits for space to open in another rescue, it will be available for adoption through the shelter's Adoption Center.
Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.
The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
