DOJ Probes Use Of Asset Forfeiture Funds By 2 Former SCDA Offices: Report
The offices of ex-District Attorneys Spota and Sini were probed by the DOJ, according to Newsday.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — The offices of ex-Suffolk County District Attorneys Thomas Spota and Timothy Sini are under federal investigation in connection with possibly using asset forfeiture money, Newsday reported.
Allen Bode, chief assistant to Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney, wrote a letter on the "ongoing federal criminal investigation" that he said started with Spota and continued under Sini, according to Newsday.
Sini called the letter "politically motivated" and "not grounded in truth," while an attorney for Spota declined Newsday's request for comment.

Sini was defeated by Tierney in his re-election bid in 2021, while Spota is serving a five-year federal prison sentence after he was convicted of covering up an incident where a man was beaten after he stole a duffle bag from a former police chief filled with sex toys and pornography.
