Driver Ejected After Car Splits In Half On Northern State Parkway: Police
A Volkswagen left the roadway near Exit 46 and split in half, New York State Police say.
SMITHTOWN, NY — A driver was ejected from a vehicle that split in half during a one-car crash on the Northern State Parkway in Smithtown on Monday night, New York State Police said.
Troopers responded at about 8:30 p.m. to the westbound Northern State Parkway near the New Highway overpass, Exit 46, after reports of a motor vehicle crash, police said.
When troopers arrived, they found a 2010 Volkswagen EOS split in half, with the driver and sole occupant ejected from the vehicle, police said.

An investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined erratic driving and unsafe speed were contributing factors that led to the vehicle leaving the roadway, police said.
Police did not immediately release additional information about the driver’s condition.
