Ex-Aide Used Elderly Client's Food Card In Smithtown: Police

The aide is accused of making 17 unauthorized purchases at a grocery store in a three-month span, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — A former aide accused of fraudulently using an elderly client's electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card in Smithtown in 2020 was arrested on Saturday, Suffolk police said.

Shatia Parker, 30, of Riverhead, used her client's EBT card 17 times at a Smithtown grocery store between October and December 2020, police said. Parker was an aide who advertised on Care.com, police said.

The unauthorized transactions ranged between $37 and $193, police said. A family member contacted the police after noticing a discrepancy on the receipts, police said.

Parker was arrested and charged with 17 counts of petty larceny. She is set to be arraigned at a later date.
