UPDATED: Multiple Fire Departments Battle Smithtown House Fire
All residents got out in time after a fire started on the second floor, officials say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — A fire broke out at a Smithtown home Tuesday afternoon. The Smithtown Fire Department was called to a Blydenburg Avenue house around 3:30 p.m., said public information officer Rick Torre.
All residents got out of the house safely. Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading outside the second floor room where it started, Torre said. Volunteers had water on the fire 11 minutes after it broke out. The Hauppauge, Commack and Nesconset fire departments helped extinguish the home; it took 40 minutes to get the blaze under control.
Ambulances were called to help with firefighter rehabilitation due to the high heat. One firefighter suffered a minor injury but did not need to go to the hospital.
