Former Student Entered Smithtown High School Without Permission

The student was immediately identified and ran away from security, the school district said.

SMITHTOWN, NY - A former Smithtown High School West student entered the school without permission on Friday morning, the district announced.

At about 7 a.m., the former student entered the building along with the current students.

Security immediately identified him and questioned him about his presence, the district said.

He then ran from security and left school grounds. Suffolk Police were notified and responded immediately.

"The former student has been identified and all relevant contact information has been provided to the police," the district sad in a statement. "The student in question has contacted the school and apologized for causing an unintended disturbance. This is now a matter for the SCPD."

Police say the investigation is continuing.
