SMITHTOWN, NY — More than 30 girls from Smithtown High School East and Smithtown High School West tried out for the new high school flag football team on Monday, marking a historic day for Smithtown Central School District athletics.

"Being part of history is so special," head coach Mike Agostino said in a news release. "Being the first to do something is a great feeling."

The girls wasted no time going through certain plays and running routes. The most popular theme of the day was having the opportunity to make history together.
