Give Your Children the Tools to Become Successful Readers at The Smithtown Library

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a new Library program that encourages all Smithtown families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten.

Studies have shown that families who start reading aloud to their children at an early age help to strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary – two important tools for beginning to learn to read when they enter kindergarten.

All families and caregivers are encouraged to read at least 1000 books with their young children before they enter Kindergarten. Reading to preschool-age children builds vocabulary, language skills, and helps prepare them with the skills they need for Kindergarten.  Ask your children's librarian for more information. 631-360-2480 ext. 140
