'Great Hollow Vs Cancer' Smithtown Fundraiser Raises $2,500

Money was raised for Solving Kids' Cancer. The football team, boys and girls soccer squads and field hockey team all took part.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Great Hollow Middle School raised more than $2,500 for Solving Kids' Cancer at its Great Hollow vs. Cancer event held Tuesday, the Smithtown School District announced.

The event, organized by Great Hollow Middle School field hockey coach Colleen McKillop, featured a day for the school teams to host a game. Students and faculty were invited to watch them participate in various after-school sports.

The football team, boys and girls soccer squads and field hockey team all took part.

The Great Hollow kickline and cheerleading teams also performed.

Donations came from students, teachers, staff and parents to raise funds in the fight against cancer.

Solving Kids' Cancer is a nonprofit that focuses on aggressive childhood cancers with low survival rates—"because Every Kid Deserves to Grow Up," the charity wrote on its website. Solving Kids' Cancer aims to help accelerate new, next-generation treatments, including immunotherapy, cancer vaccines, and new drugs.

"We extend our reach globally to fully understand the research landscape so that we may influence and strengthen the science, resulting in more cures for children. Solving Kids' Cancer fosters the development of innovative clinical trials that bring more effective treatments to children both in the U.S., Europe and beyond."
