SMITHTOWN'S OPTIONS FOR COMMUNITY LIVING WAS AWARDED A $200,000 CONTRACT TO SERVE PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS
Options for Community Living, Inc. has been selected by the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute to provide community based HIV/AIDS case management and health education services on Long Island.
Long Island has the highest number of AIDS cases of any suburban area in the nation. Since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, there have been 8,774 AIDS cases reported on Long Island. More than 5,700 persons are living with HIV or AIDS in the region, and there have been 5,177 deaths caused by the disease.
“Options has been serving people living with HIV/AIDS on Long Island for more than 20 years,” said Yolanda Robano-Gross, executive director, Options for Community Living. “We see firsthand the benefits of treatment. People in care live longer, healthier lives. Options is grateful to receive the support of the AIDS Institute to continue our work, and we are proud to play a role in the ongoing mission to end the AIDS epidemic in New York.”
