SMITHTOWN, NY — The Town of Smithtown held a 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Sunday.

The town and its chamber of commerce hosted local families of 9/11 victims, first responders, U.S. military and veterans. Rabbi Mendel Teldon, of Chabad of Commack, and Pastor Stephen Zarlengo, of Smithtown Tabernacle Church, led attendees in an interfaith reflection and blessing.

“Today, we stand united, to honor the memory of our loved ones, our brave first responders and our men & women in uniform who protect us against terrorism," Supervisor Edward Wehrheim stated. "We pay respects to our friends and neighbors who grieve their loss. Today we reclaim the spirit of unity, hope, faith and resilience that served as a light through our darkest of hours, 21 years ago today… To all who have lost loved ones on September 11th, and in the years that followed, I will make you this one promise. We will always honor you and your loved ones here in Smithtown, each and every day. Through acts of service, or the random act of kindness. That is how we keep their memories alive. That is how we Never Forget.”
