Join the Summer Fun at The Smithtown Library!

All readers and pre-readers from age 3 through 5th grade are invited to participate in this year’s Children’s Summer Reading Program, “Fizz, Boom, Read!”  The program starts on Monday, June 30 and continues through Saturday, August 16.  Visit your local library branch to join.  Participants will earn stickers and prizes for the books they read.  Visit us 5 times complete the program and receive an invitation to our Reading Club Finale; The Magic of Reading with Terry Parrett.

Our children have been working hard in school since last September.  Don’t let them lose the skills they have worked so hard to build.  Children who read over the summer prevent the reading achievement losses that normally occur over those months.  Summer reading loss can occur during summer vacation when children are away from school and not participating in a reading program.  Studies show evidence that the impact of summer reading loss on children is significant. To avoid this loss be sure that children have access to books that interest them, the more children read, the better readers they become.
