L.L. Bean To Open First Long Island Store This Month

Long Island's first L.L. Bean will be opening up at the Smith Haven Mall this month.

The new store, which will be located at the mall in Lake Grove, will be the outdoor retailer's fifth New York store.

The grand opening celebration will begin on Friday, June 23 and go through Sunday, June 25.

Grand opening event highlights will include:

• Friday: Free L.L.Bean Gift Card worth up to $500 to the first 200 customers to come through the door when the store opens at 9 a.m.
• Saturday and Sunday: free fly-casting and archery lessons by experts from L.L.Bean’s Outdoor Discovery Schools, games and more from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Saturday and Sunday: enter to win a trip to Maine for a family of four
• Sunday: Kids’ Day--it’s all about the kids with a day of family fun featuring wildlife programs, and hands-on activities and games with local Boy and Girl Scout troops from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In addition, all weekend long, customers can also have their photo taken with L.L.Bean’s famous Bootmobile, a mobile version of L.L.Bean’s first and most iconic product, the L.L.Bean Boot.

The new 16,000 square-foot store will feature an assortment of active and casual apparel and footwear, as well as outdoor lifestyle gear including hiking, fly-fishing, kayaking and winter gear and camping products.

The store will be hiring a total of 70 employees.

"L.L.Bean made the decision to continue to expand its retail presence into New York as part of its overall retail expansion plan and due to the high level of brand affinity the area residents have for L.L.Bean," the company wrote in a statement. "In addition, the area is also in proximity to several abundant natural resources and multiple opportunities for many outdoor activities, as well as a population base that enjoys regularly engaging in a variety of outdoor pursuits."
