Local Suffolk Police Inspector To Retire After 48 Years
Inspector Harold Jantzen will be retiring Wednesday after one of the longest tenured careers in the history of the department.

SMITHTOWN, NY - Suffolk County Police Department Fourth Precinct Inspector Harold “Hal” Jantzen is finally hanging up his uniform after 48 years of dedicated service to Suffolk residents.
Jantzen began his career with the Suffolk County Police on February 15, 1971 and was part of the 44th recruit class.
He has had one of the longest tenured careers in the history of the department and served time in more than 20 commands—most notably 10 years as the commanding officer of Marine Bureau.

Jantzen will retire from the Fourth Precinct, where his brother John Jantzen, who was killed in the line of duty in 1991, began his career.
Colleagues, family and friends will line up outside of the Fourth Precinct on 727 Veterans Memorial Highway in Smithtown on Wednesday starting at 3:30 p.m. to honor Inspector Jantzen during his final walkout.
