Man Dies In Apparent Drowning In Suffolk

A swimmer in distress was pulled from the water, police say. He was later pronounced dead.

NISSEQUOGUE, NY — A man died in an apparent drowning in Nissequogue on Sunday evening, Suffolk police said.

Fourth Precinct and Marine Bureau officers responded to a report of a swimmer in distress off of Long Beach Road around 6:40 p.m., police said.

Eric Soloff, 63, of Nissequogue, was pulled from the water a short time later, police said. Soloff was brought to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
