Man Drove Drunk With His Two Kids In Car: Police

The 53-year-old had his 9-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter in the car during the time of the arrest, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY - A Bay Shore man was arrested for driving drunk with his two children in the car in Smithtown on Monday night, according to State Police.

Reynaldo Villegas, 53, was driving his 1997 Honda Accord southbound on the Sunken Meadow Parkway, just north of the Northern State Parkway at about 9:57 p.m. when he was stopped by a trooper for moving from his lane unsafely, police said.

While interviewing him, the trooper saw signs of intoxication and arrested him for DWI, police said.

Villegas had his 9-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter in the car during the time of the arrest, police said.

The children were turned over to their mother.

Villegas was charged with felony aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and several traffic violations, police said.

He was held overnight pending Tuesday morning arraignment in Suffolk County First District Court.
