Man Killed by Car While Crossing Route 347

NESCONSET, NY – A 54-year-old man was struck and killed by a car while he was crossing Route 347 in Nesconset Tuesday afternoon, police said.

According to police, James Zullo, of Nesconset, was crossing the eastbound lanes from the center median when he was struck by a 2002 Subaru in the right lane, just east of Moriches Road, at about 4:25 p.m.

Zullo was transported by Centereach Rescue to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, a 61-year-old Mt. Sinai woman, stayed at the scene and was not injured.

No criminal charges have been filed.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing.
