Man Killed in Smithtown Crash

The two-car accident occurred Monday morning, police say.

A Central Islip man was killed in a two-car crash in Smithtown Monday morning.

According to police, 61-year-old James Poallo was driving a 2002 Hyundai Sonata west on West Jericho Turnpike around 8 a.m. when he attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot at 894 West Jericho Turnpike. His car was then struck by an eastbound 2001 Ford F350 pickup truck, police said.

Poallo was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The pickup truck driver, 46-year-old Guillermo Linares, 46, of Huntington, was not injured. His adult male passenger was transported to Stony Brook for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

No criminal charges have been filed in the crash and the investigation is continuing.
