Police ID Man Who Stole Prescription Drugs From Pharmacy

The 29-year-old demanded narcotics from the pharmacist before fleeing, police said.

SMITHTOWN, NY - A Ronkonkoma man after he robbed a pharmacy in Smithtown on Wednesday morning, according to Suffolk Police.

John Giunta, 29, entered the Smithtown Prescription Center on 260 East Main Street, at 9:55 a.m., approached a pharmacist and demanded narcotics, police said.

The pharmacist complied and Giunta fled with the proceeds, police said.

Officers responded and arrested Giunta in the back parking lot of the United Methodist Church on 230 East Main Street a short time later, police said.

Major Case Unit detectives charged Giunta with third degree robbery.

Giunta is being held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on June 20.

The building is also the location of the Senator John J. Flanagan's office.
