Mills Pond Elementary School Student Tests Coronavirus Positive

SMITHTOWN, NY — A student from Mills Pond Elementary School tested positive for the coronavirus, the Smithtown Central School District learned on Sunday. The student was last in the building on Friday and tested positive Saturday, Superintendent Mark Secaur told parents in a letter.

Contact tracing was performed once the case was confirmed with the Suffolk County Department of Health Services. The Department of Health will inform those identified as being in close contact and issue quarantine orders if necessary.

"We share this information with you as part of our ongoing efforts to keep the community informed of issues of concern," Secaur wrote. "That said, we must also be careful to respect the laws relating to the privacy of our students and employees, and we can not comment with any further details."

In early October, two Great Hollow Middle School students tested positive for the coronavirus.

On Oct. 5, the district told parents that it confirmed two students from Smithtown High School East tested positive for the virus. One student was last in the building on Sept. 11, and the other on Sept. 25, according to Secaur.

The New York state COVID-19 report card lists three Smithtown High School East students as having tested positive for the coronavirus on-site, while two more tested positive off-site. The Smithtown Central School District has not yet returned Patch's request for comment.
