Peaceful Postcards From Mills Pond School
Students participate in different activities to promote peace.

In conjunction with Peace Week 2014, students at Mills Pond Elementary School in the Smithtown School District participated in different activities to promote peace.
One of the highlights this year was their involvement in a project called “Exchange Peace, One Postcard at a Time.” Every student created a “peaceful” postcard that they will send to a school in Haridwar, India.
Students also participated in a school-wide “peace walk” around the building, listening to calming music every step of the way. The walk concluded with a special assembly in the gymnasium.

Mills Pond students will represent the school at the upcoming Shanti Fund event at the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge. The event, which invites students from schools throughout Long Island, is a celebration of peace, highlighted by artwork that promotes peace.
Peace Week followed International Peace Day (Sept. 21), which was established by the United Nations in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the UN General Assembly. It was designed to encourage the creation of practical acts of peace.
