Review: Foster's Grille Lives up To Its Name 'The Home of the Charburger'

Local restaurant is strong link in chain.

Foster's Grille of Nesconset is part of a restaurant franchise that lives up to the name "The Home of the Charburger," by serving half pound patties broiled on the grill with customized toppings, sided with fresh, hand-cut French fries and extra thick milkshakes.

Decor: Foster's Grille is known for its casual, family-friendly atmosphere. It is filled with fun décor such as assorted advertising signs, video games and vintage items with an open industrial-style ceiling where the body of a stock car hangs above the dining area.

The Drinks: Along with fountain drinks ($1.99), Foster's Grille has fresh brewed iced tea ($1.99), fresh squeezed lemonade ($1.99), homemade milkshakes ($3.99) in vanilla, chocolate or strawberry, draft beers (domestic $3.50/premium $4.25) and red or white wine ($4.25).

Appetizers: They offer extras such as chicken wings by the piece (75 cents/boneless 70 cents) with ranch, BBQ or blue cheese dressing. The boneless wings were above average in size, all-white meat, flavorful and tender. They also have cheese nachos ($4.49), a basket of onion rings ($4.89), hand-cut fries ($3.89) and a bowl of chili ($5.29).

Entrees: Customers are given a menu pad and pencil to put their name and circle their order and toppings. They hand in the order slip, which is given to the kitchen. After paying, they pick a table. When the order is ready, a server will call their name and deliver the items.

All menu items are made fresh to order, and entrees include hand-cut fries and a beverage. Their claim to fame is the "Olde Fashioned Charburger" ($9.29), which is a half pound of beef topped with customized ingredients (most free of charge). The "Charburger" with ketchup, pickles, cheese and bacon (99 cents extra) was fresh, thick and satisfying. The fries had that fresh potato taste.

Foster's Grille is not just known for their hamburgers. Other popular items are Foster's Famous Grilled Hot Dog ($6.99) and the chicken wings entrée ($9.39/boneless $8.99). The wings were white meat, jumbo in size, savory and tender. Other items include a grilled or fried chicken sandwich ($9.29), an oven roasted roast beef or turkey sandwich ($8.99) and a garden burger ($8.29).

Along with their variety of menu choices, Foster's Grille also has a specials menu and children's menu.

Sides: Entrees include fries (substitute for a side salad or onion rings $1.59 extra) and a drink.

Desserts: Foster's Grille offers cake ($2.99), cookies ($1.29), an ice cream cone ($2.49), an ice cream "cookiewich" ($3.49), a brownie ($2.99) and a mixed fruit cup ($1.29) for dessert.

Service: Friendly and quick staff helps in customizing meals.
