Sandy Hook Promise Officers To Be Honored
The Suffolk County Deputies & Correction Officers who planned the Sandy Hook Promise program will be honored by Suffolk County Legislature.

SMITHTOWN, NY — On Wednesday, Sept. 4, Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory will be honoring the Suffolk County Deputies and Correction Officers who were instrumental in planning and presenting the Sandy Hook Promise program to over 9,000 students in Suffolk County schools during the 2018-2019 school year, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office announced.
This coming school year, the office will be presenting the program to over 2,500 students in September alone. Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. started the successful school-based initiative in 2018.
The ceremony will start at 9:30 a.m. at the William H. Rogers Legislature Building, located at 725 Veterans Memorial Highway in Smithtown.

Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national, nonprofit organization based in Newtown, Connecticut. They are led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook School on Dec. 14, 2012.
Sandy Hook Promise is focused on preventing gun violence (and other forms of violence) BEFORE it happens by educating and mobilizing parents, schools and communities on mental health and wellness programs that identify, intervene and help at-risk individuals.

SHP is a moderate, above-the-politics organization that supports sensible non-policy and policy solutions that protect children and prevent gun violence. Its intent is to honor all victims of gun violence by turning the tragedy into a moment of transformation.
