Smithtown 2022-23 School Budget Preview

Here is what voters should know before they head to the polls on Tuesday.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Smithtown residents are set to head to the polls on Tuesday, May 17.

The vote is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. There are four polling places: Smithtown Elementary School on Lawrence Avenue, St. James Elementary School on Lake Avenue, Nesconset Elementary School on Gibbs Pond Road, and Accompsett Elementary School on Lincoln Street.

The Smithtown School District's proposed spending plan for the 2022-23 school year is $267,786,882. That's a 2.08 percent increase from the current budget. The tax levy is $207,439,293, or a 1.2 percent increase from last year's.

Smithtown School Board incumbent Michael Catalanotto is set to run for another three-year term against challenger Charles Fisher. Incumbent Michael Saidens is running against Angela Kouvel for a three-year term, as well. Both winners' terms would be set to expire on June 30, 2025.
