SMITHTOWN, NY — Meet Beefsteak, who was named Smithtown Animal Shelter’s Pet of the Week.

Beefsteak is a 2-year-old adult domestic short hair male who recently arrived after he was found in the tomato patch of someone's garden.

"Hence his name 'Beefsteak,'" the shelter stated via release. "Just be careful not to accidentally call him Beefcake!"

It didn't take long for Beefsteak to prove to the shelter's staff how affectionate he is. He loves being around people and being held. He’s still new at the shelter, so he hasn’t fully come out of his shell yet, but that will likely happen as time goes on, or when he finds a new home that’s right for him.

Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.
