Smithtown Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Blaze
Blaze, a 6-year-old male Pit Bull Terrier, is looking for a new home.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Blaze, a 6-year-old male Pit Bull Terrier, was named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pet of the Week.
He was rescued by Smithtown Animal Control Officers when a call came in from the county that a dog was abandoned and left in a cage at Blydenburgh Park. Due to the dedication of the shelter's dog trainer and staff, Blaze has learned to trust and love humans again. When describing Blaze, the shelter used the line "From a Bitter Blydenburgh Beginning to a Fairy-tale Future." The only question is: Who will be Blaze's fairy godmother/godfather?
Blaze enjoys running around in the shelter's dog park, eating treats, and playing in the pool with his toys. He has bonded with some of the shelter's staff, whom he's grown to trust. He knows some commands: sit, wait, give paw, and he walks nicely on a leash.

According to the shelter, Blaze needs an adult-only home, without other pets, and one familiar with big breed dogs. His ideal family will spend time reinforcing his training with reward incentives, understanding that he has been through a rough road and those days are forever in the past.
If you are interested in meeting Blaze, call the shelter ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting, which includes a Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs and a Dog Walk trail.
