Smithtown Adoptable Pet Of The Week: Yoo-Hoo

SMITHTOWN, NY — Yoo-Hoo is the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pet of the Week. She is a female domestic medium hair mix estimated to be between 10 and 12 years old, according to the shelter.

"Sweet Yoo-Hoo was found abandoned, thin and matted as part of a feral cat colony," the shelter wrote in an email. "Her unique coloring and stunning green eyes are hard to resist. Yoo-Hoo loves to snuggle and hang out in the sun."

She has a hyperthyroid condition, but this can be managed through a prescription diet and vet visits twice a year, according to the shelter. Yoo-Hoo would do well in a home with children and other animals that respect her personal space.

Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter has reopened, but due to the coronavirus, the shelter is continuing to practice social distancing in its facility, as well as indoor mask guidelines.

Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
