Smithtown Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Apu & Manjula

SMITHTOWN, NY — Apu and Manjula, who are 8-month-old siblings, are the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pets of the Week.

Apu is a black domestic shorthair male, while Manjula is a brown tabby domestic shorthair female.

"Apu and Manjula are total sweethearts who love to get kisses and get petted," the shelter wrote in an email. "They are fabulously affectionate, friendly, and low-key. They get along very well with each other but are not bonded siblings. While we would love for these beauties to be adopted together, they can be separated if necessary."

Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.

"If you are looking for a fun-loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two," the shelter stated.

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter has reopened, but due to the coronavirus, the shelter is continuing to practice social distancing in its facility, as well as indoor mask guidelines.

Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
