SMITHTOWN, NY — Meet the Smithtown Animal Shelter’s Pets of the Week; sweet Betty Boop and the ham of a cat named Momoa.

Momoa is a 2-and-a-half-year-old male domestic shorthair. He originally came to the shelter as a stray in April of last year.

"He was quickly adopted due to his beautiful coat and sweet temperament," the shelter wrote. "Unfortunately, he was brought back when he couldn’t get along with the owner’s dog. He would be best as the only pet in the household, since he loves all the attention! Momoa is a great fit for a family that has older children."

Betty Boop is a 6-to-8-year-old female pit bull terrier mix. Named after the iconic cartoon diva (who was originally designed as a dog), Miss Boop can’t get enough of people. She was brought in by a Good Samaritan who found her crying at a nearby train station. The shelter discovered quickly how attached she gets to everyone when she cried watching the Good Samaritan leave.

"She’s the perfect combination of calm, affectionate, and sweet all rolled into a 70-pound ball of love," the shelter said. "Her eyes say it all: She oozes love and adoration for every new person she meets. While she’s great with children, she would prefer to be the only pet in her home."

Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.

"If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two," the shelter stated.

For those wishing to meet Betty Boop, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting, which includes the shelter's Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs and the Dog Walk trail. Family Pet Meet and Greets and at-home interactions are also welcome and an integral part of the adoption process.

Walk-In Hours at Smithtown Animal Shelter are currently Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sundays are by appointment only.

To inquire about the Pet of the Week or to meet your potential soulmate, call the Smithtown Animal & Adoption Center at 631-360-7575.

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.
