SMITHTOWN, NY — Cali & Archie, 2-year-old domestic shorthair bonded siblings, were named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pets of the Week.

Cali is a calico female, while Archie is a tabby and white male. They arrived at the Smithtown Animal Shelter after living in a feral cat colony, according to the shelter.

These two are bonded siblings, which means they are extremely close and would prefer to be adopted together, the shelter wrote.

"They can be seen cuddling together all day long!" the shelter stated. "Cali is very outgoing and loves people, while Archie is more reserved and shy when meeting new humans. However, once Archie learns to open up to you, he is very playful and sweet. Cali and Archie would prefer a furrever home without children."

There are currently a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.

"If you are looking for a fun-loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two," the shelter stated.

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter has reopened, but due to the coronavirus, the shelter is continuing to practice social distancing in its facility, as well as indoor mask guidelines.

Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
