Smithtown Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Cash & Gia
Cash, a 12-year-old cat, and Gia, a dog less than a year old, were named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's featured pets of the week.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Meet Cash the cat and Gia the dog, as they were named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pets of the Week.
Cash is a 12-year-old female domestic shorthair feline, better known as the "Chaircat" of the Cat Condo Welcoming Committee, according to the shelter.
"Cash gets along with everyone she meets, whether they’re cats, shelter volunteers, or any visitors that may stop by to see her," the shelter said. "Once you start petting her, she won’t want you to stop and will return the love right back to you. She is mellow and friendly, and would be a great fit for any home."

Gia, a female French bulldog mix, is roughly 10 to 11 months old. She had a rough start to life, not given the basic love or care that all domestic pets require, the shelter stated.
"She’s 100 percent all miracle waiting for her furrever family," the shelter wrote.

While she is still learning how to trust people, Gia discovered that playing with toys and being showered with love is a healthy part of her daily routine. She does have some orthopedic issues, requiring a few extra steps to meet Gia’s needs.
"However, a little extra work is worth the endless love and appreciation Gia displays when she plops down on your lap or feet," the shelter said.
Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.
"If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two," the shelter stated.
All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.
For those wishing to meet Gia, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with her in a domestic setting, which includes the shelter's Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs and the Dog Walk trail. Family Pet Meet and Greets and at-home interactions are also welcome and an integral part of the adoption process.
Walk-In Hours at Smithtown Animal Shelter are currently Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sundays are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.
