Smithtown Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Hubie, Schubie, And Dubie
The three little guinea pigs were abandoned at Blydenburgh Park and found by a good Samaritan. Would you like to adopt them?

SMITHTOWN, NY — Hubie (Hubert), Schubie (Schubert), and Dubie (Dubois), a trio of male guinea pigs, are the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pets of the Week.
The guinea pigs were abandoned in Blydenburgh Park. A good Samaritan found them and turned them in. The shelter does not know how old they are.
"Hubie is a shy and gentle tan and white guinea pig who loves to get treats," the shelter wrote. "Schubie is a curious calico who is the largest of the group and the most outgoing. Dubie is an active black guinea pig who loves to run and play and is the smallest of the three. These sweet guys can be adopted together or separately if need be."

While the shelter is open to the public, it asks that people call ahead to schedule an appointment.
"The Town of Smithtown Animal Shelter is not equipped to safely house animals other than dogs & cats long term," the shelter wrote in a statement. "However, if an animal is in danger and needs housing temporarily until another rescue has room, we will do our best to provide safe shelter while we can. While the animal waits for space to open in another rescue, it will be available for adoption through our Adoption Center."

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself. Please allow yourself an hour minimum to meet with your potential new family member.
The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time. Potential fosters need to have no other pets or young children in the home.
