SMITHTOWN, NY — Rosie and Tabitha, a pair of 12-to-13-year-old female domestic shorthair sisters, are the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pets of the Week.

Rosie is a tortoiseshell and Tabitha is a calico. They went to the Smithtown Animal Shelter after their mom died.

"They enjoy each other‘s company, and while we would love for them to be adopted together, we will separate them for the purrfect home," the shelter wrote. "Rosie is sweet and outgoing, and will let you pet her for hours on end. Tabitha is more reserved and shy, but in a nice, quiet home, we believe she will start to open up and come out of her shell. Rosie and Tabitha have experience living with other cats, but not with dogs."

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter has reopened, but because of the coronavirus, the shelter is continuing to practice social distancing in its facility, as well as indoor mask guidelines.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
