Smithtown Adoptable Pets Of The Week: Smokey & Noah
Smokey, a male 8-year-old terrier mix, and Noah, a 2-year-old male longhair, were named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's featured pets.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Meet Smokey the dog and Noah the cat, as they were named the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pets of the Week.
Smokey is an 8-year-old male terrier mix. His previous owner could no longer provide for his needs, but has received plenty of attention and snuggling from shelter staff and volunteers, the shelter said.
"[He] is the very definition of an absolute gentleman," the shelter wrote. "He has a cool, very laid back personality, and gets along with everyone he meets! Smokey walks nicely while on a leash and knows basic commands. He grew up in a home with a female dog, and still enjoys interacting with other pups. Don’t let his age discourage you... Smokey is an amazing friend and companion for just about every family."

Noah, a 2-year-old male domestic longhair Maine Coon mix, is described by the shelter to have "a beautiful long coat of fur, whiskers for miles, and bright yellow eyes that are spellbinding." Noah is known to love attention and won't shy away from seeking some tender loving care. He grew up in a home with a dog and some other cats, so he can fit in a home with multiple pets. He does scare easily, however, so his ideal home would be calm, quiet and without smaller children, the shelter said.
Currently, there are a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.

"If you are looking for a fun loving, yarn tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two," the shelter stated.
All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.
For those wishing to meet Smokey, please call ahead to schedule an hour to properly interact with him in a domestic setting, which includes the shelter's Meet and Greet Room, the dog runs and the Dog Walk trail. Family Pet Meet and Greets and at-home interactions are also welcome and an integral part of the adoption process.
Walk-In Hours at Smithtown Animal Shelter are currently Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sundays are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.
