Smithtown Children’s Foundation Celebrates Community
Smithtown Children's Foundation pays tribute to Elegant Eating's Co-Owner, Myra Naseem at the 2017 SCF Community Table Grand Tasting event.
The 2017 Smithtown Children's Foundation Community Table Grand Tasting event is held at Flowerfield Celebrations in Saint James on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, from 6 pm to 10 pm. Tickets are available through the Smithtown Children’s Foundation website: www.SmithtownChildrensFoundation/events.
“Community, not charity, that is what the 2017’s Smithtown Children’s Foundation Community Table Grand Tasting is all about”, affirms the event’s organizer and SCF advisory board member, Nancy Vallarella. “There is no better way to bring everyone to the Community Table than to honor a person who has cooked for us and has taught us how to cook for more than fifty years.” This honor is bestowed to Naseem as she and her Elegant Eating business partner, Neil Schumer commemorate their 30th year in business.
The Community Table brings together nearly 30 participating culinary, spirits, and entertainment businesses and dozens more in sponsorship and donor capacities. The funds raised are a byproduct of how people and the businesses in the community actively support each in the goal of maintaining a healthy, and vibrant community.

Smithtown Children’s Foundation Executive Board Member and Co-Founder, Christine Fitzgerald states, “Last year’s 2016 Community Table event attendance and proceeds exceeded our initial projections. It was also the first year we partnered with Stony Brook Children’s Hospital to pay forward their efforts in supporting families in crisis”. A portion of the event’s proceeds goes to Stony Brook Children’s Child Life Program. “We hope that this continued relationship will inspire residents in the Stony Brook/Three Village area to form a local Chapter of SCF and give those communities an additional layer of support for individuals facing crisis residing within their school districts."
The Hauppauge Chapter of the Smithtown Children’s Foundation is in its first year of operation.
