Smithtown High Schools Raise $500 At 'Fight Against Cancer' Game
The girls basketball teams competed against each other and raised money for the American Cancer Society.
SMITHTOWN, NY — The Smithtown High School West and High School East girls basketball teams played against each other on Thursday but the game had a deeper meaning than just the score, the school district announced.
The teams were playing to raise money to fight cancer, and especially to support Smithtown High School West sophomore Hannah Waller.
Hannah has been battling brain cancer since September when she had surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Hannah's twin sister, Mallory, addressed the crowd and Hannah before the game, telling her sister, "You are such a warrior. I’m so glad to be alongside you during this fight."

Many clubs and groups were on hand to help in the fundraising efforts.

Approximately $500 was raised and will go toward the American Cancer Society. Smithtown High School East won the game, 51-43.
