Smithtown Home Badly Damaged By Fire
The fire engulfed the home's carport Sunday afternoon, prompting four fire departments to battle the blaze, officials say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — A Smithtown home burst into flames Sunday afternoon. First responding units from the Smithtown Fire Department saw smoke billowing from the direction of the Dartmouth Drive house around 4:30 p.m., according to Smithtown Fire Department Assistant Chief Timothy Duckham.
The fire engulfed the home's carport and was extending to the attic by the time Third Assistant Chief Daniel Dongvort arrived. Engine 4-2-2 began fighting the fire, while crews from Engine 4-2-5 stretched a back up line.
It took about an hour to bring the flames under control. Rick Torre, public information officer of Smithtown Fire Department, told Patch there was "extensive damage to most of the home." No residents were injured, and one firefighter suffered a minor injury. The Town of Smithtown Fire Marshal’s Office and Suffolk Police Arson Squad are investigating how the fire started. Everyone was free to leave at 6:42 p.m.
