Smithtown Home Badly Damaged In Fire
Firefighters battled the blaze for a couple of hours, and no one was hurt.

SMITHTOWN, NY — A Smithtown home was badly damaged in a fire on Wednesday night.
Firefighters from Smithtown, St. James, Nesconset, Kings Park and Commack were called to South Avenue at 9:19 p.m. Wednesday, where they were met with heavy fire and smoke conditions, said Rick Torre, public information officer for the Smithtown Fire Department. It took firefighters an hour to get the blaze under control.
No one was injured, and the cause of the fire is being investigated. There was heavy water damage to the house and extensive damage in general, Torre said.
