Smithtown HS West Has National Merit Semifinalist

SMITHTOWN, NY — Daniel Davidsen, a senior at Smithtown High School West, was named a 2024 National Merit Semifinalist, the school district announced.
Davidsen is among a group of academically talented students who represent less than 1% of United States high school seniors.
"I was very happy to find that out and it was something that was very exciting and I’m very hopeful that this is another thing that would really bolster my applications for college," Davidsen said in a news release.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is a nonprofit organization that awards scholarship to high school seniors annually. Semifinalists are chosen based on preliminary SAT scores.
Finalists will be chosen based on an essay written by the student, a recommendation from a high school official, and grades and SAT scores that align with the student’s PSAT score.
