Smithtown HS West Senior Wins NYS VFW Contest

The girl will travel to Washington, D.C. to compete for the national prize: a $35,000 college scholarship.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Abigail Jung, a senior at Smithtown High School West, won the New York state VFW Voices of Democracy audio-essay contest, the Smithtown School District announced.

The theme was"What are the Greatest Attributes of Our Democracy?"

The VFW contest began in 1947 and provides students with the opportunity to express themselves in a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay.
