Smithtown HS West Soccer Teams Win County Championships

Both the boys and girls squads emerged as the top teams in Suffolk.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Both the boys and girls soccer teams at Smithtown High School West won Suffolk County championships, the school district announced.

The girls won the "AA" title by defeating Half Hollow Hills West 1-0 on Oct. 31. Madison DeMaio scored the lone goal of the contest, and goalkeeper Meghan Speer notched a shutout.

The boys followed suit on Nov. 2 when they defeated Huntington 2-0 behind second half goals by James Martino and Gavin Reis and a shutout by goalkeeper, Nicholas Kondenar.

Both teams advanced to the Long Island Championship. The girls are scheduled to play Saturday while the boys are slated to play Sunday.
