Smithtown HS West Student Raises $27K For Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

SMITHTOWN, NY — Sophia Enright, an 11th grade student at Smithtown High School West, raised $27K for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as part of the LLS Student Visionaries of the Year program, the school district announced.
Sophia was the leader of "Bulls Against Blood Cancer," a 20-plus person team of students from both high schools. One of the several fundraising activities she organized was "Loose Change for Leukemia" at Mount Pleasant Elementary, which alone raised about $7,000 in three weeks.
"I was immediately drawn to the mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society," Enright said in a news release. "Having personally lost loved ones to blood cancer, this campaign allowed me to make tangible impacts on those in need. I'm grateful for this opportunity to spread awareness and raise money. I'm especially grateful for the support from my team members, teachers, and Smithtown staff for allowing me to bring my efforts to the school platform. I have learned so much from this valuable experience. This campaign does not have a finished date. I will continue to work to end cancer suffering."
